The Duchess Anna Amalia Library has a collection of ca. 1 million volumes. Its emphasis lies on Germany’s cultural and literary history from 1750 – 1850. Some of these gems include medieval manuscripts, pamphlets from the Reformation, a collection of family registers and bibles including the first complete edition of the Lutheran bible translation from 1534. The historical building with the famed Rococo hall joined the list of UNESCO world heritage sites in 1998.
